when I was young, I was gifted a Ford Festiva. great car, but terrible for a teenage male. since it was FWD, I couldn’t power slide or drift, so I decided I’d learn to e-brake slide like a bad-ass. after several sketchy nearly rolling the car attempts, the cheap tires on the car literally fell apart in chunks until wire was exposed. luckily, they had a Les Schwab 70k mile warranty, and I had put like 200 miles on them. knowing they’d call me out for hooning, I had my Grandma go to Les Schwab to deal with the warranty claim. they called her out on hooning, and unfortunately, her best “Me? in a Ford Festiva? On the way to church and back?” didn’t work, so I was out $40 for two replacement tires.

I lived in North Ontario growing up with lots of fire roads, and logging roads. I was given a handme-down 2003 Honda Odyssey with a broken transmission, and blown shocks. On Sundays the trucks did not run the logging roads. That meant those roads turned into stage rallys. There where some train track crossings if you hit them fast enough you get some air. Some corners hit fast enough get lift off over steer. Drifting a mini van with blown shocks was very hairy. Then one day I was driving it, I heard a loud pop, then saw smoke. The transmission died that day. I still miss that stupid van.

Classmate in HS had a Festiva ashis first car, at least it was a stick.

During one physics lesson the teacher is trying to explain torque. She asks is anyone has a car that can shove the driver’s head into the headrest when they hit the gas. Classmate with the Festiva is the first to raise his hand.

The whole class erupts into laughter.
